CSN to invest BRL 800 million in a hub port at Pecem area

Brazil steelmaker Companhia Siderurgica Nacional (CSN) will invest BRL 800 million in a in the nation’s northeast region, according to media reports.

The hub port is reportedly expected to be completed by 2018 and will be built in a 100 hectares area in the Pecem port complex, in the state of Ceara. The project is currently at a conception stage and will have the capacity to receive large ships, facilitating the redistribution of cargos to smaller embarkations.

According CSN’s port manager, Jose Serra, the hub port will provide a terminal for the transportation of cargos that will arrive from the Transnordestina railway, which is also expected to be completed by 2018. According to Serra, the Pecem port complex has all the requisites to become a world-class port.
