Brazilian steelmaker Companhia Siderurgica Nacional (CSN) may lose part of its Transnoderstina railway, a government official said this week. The 1,073-mile railway project connects 81 cities in Brazil.

A media report by Diario do Nordeste said CSN may end up owning just the Ceará state stretch of the railway, and might lose the Pernambuco state part, according to Brazilian minister of infrastructure, Tarcisio Freitas.

CSN was expected to invest BRL 7 billion ($1.6 billion) in the project to complete it. If the company loses the Pernambuco stretch, the needed investments might diminish to BRL 4 billion ($953.9 million).

The project was first expected to be completed in 2010, but was delayed to 2021, then 2019, and more recently to 2027.
