In the January-September period of the current year, the aggregate shipbuilding output in China amounted to 26.06 million deadweight tons (dwt), down 14.9 percent year on year, according to the figures released by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). Of the total, seagoing vessels accounted for 9.47 million dwt.
In the given period, China's new ship orders amounted to 52.49 million dwt, up 37.9 percent year on year and including 16.56 million dwt of seagoing vessels.
As of the end of September, ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 154.71 million dwt, up 35.7 percent year on year and rising by 18.1 percent compared to the end of 2013, while seagoing vessel orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 48.54 million dwt as of the end of September. As of the date in question, ship export orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises constituted of 95.2 percent of total ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises
In the first nine months, China's aggregate shipbuilding output and new ship orders respectively accounted for 38.3 percent and 53.2 percent of the global market share, while ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilders at the end of September accounted for 47.6 percent of total ship orders worldwide.
