Malaysian steel mill, Ann Joo Steel Berhad, a 98 percent-owned subsidiary of Ann Joo Resources Berhad, in July 2007 obtained UK CARES certification for its reinforcement bar products (full size range of D-10 to D-40 bars) at its Prai and Shah Alam facilities.

Ann Joo Steel is the first among Southeast Asian mills to obtain UK CARES certification. The company has been exporting both semi finished and finished steel products to SE Asia, East Asia and Oceania Pacific countries.

Ann Joo Steel currently operates a 90 mt EAF with a production capacity of about 750,000 mt per year, casting 100 mm, 120 mm and 150 mm square billets of 6-12 m in length. The three rolling mills, two located in Prai and one in Shah Alam, have a combined capacity of about 600,000 mt per year, manufacturing deformed reinforcement bars and wire rods for the construction industry. Ann Joo Steel exports 150,000 mt of billets per annum and the share of finished products in the company's yearly exports is about 10 percent.

In 2000, Ann Joo Resources Berhad acquired a 32 percent stake in the former Malayawata Steel Berhad, further increasing its stake to 98 percent in March, 2007. Ann Joo Resources' major business areas are steel milling (Ann Joo Steel and Anshin Steel), steel hardware stockist, steel hardware trading, steel service centre, foundry and manufacturing abrasive materials from EAF slag.  It is listed on the Kuala Lumpur stock exchange with a market capitalization of about MYR 1.2 billion ($350 million).
