Austria-based engineering company and plantmaker Siemens has announced that its Siemens Industry Solutions Division has received an order from Austrian special steel producer Böhler Edelstahl to install new drive and automation equipment at the continuous rolling mill at its multi-line rolling mill and at the plate rolling stand of its blooming mill in Kapfenberg, Austria.
As a result of the modernization project, Böhler Edelstahl is to reduce energy and media consumption, widen the range of its products, and improve their quality still further. The order has a value of several million euro, and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2011.
Böhler Edelstahl is one of the world's most important producers of high-speed steel, tool steel and special materials. Its multi-line rolling mill in Kapfenberg has been in operation since 1988, when it was one of the world's most modern plants, and produces bar, round and flat steels, as well as wire. The company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Böhler Uddeholm AG, Vienna, and has thus been a part of Austrian steel producer Voestalpine AG since 2008.
