Slovakia Steel Mills (SSM), an emerging company setting up a new steel and rolling mill in Strážske, Slovakia, has announced that it plans to commence test operations at its rolling mill facility in the current month of March.

As SteelOrbis previously reported, the company had announced its plans to invest SKK 5.4 billion in the mentioned project in late 2008. The new plant will produce wire rod and steel bar. As of January 2011, the company employs 389 people in total.

SMM plans to supply construction steel to customers in 16 countries on four continents. The emerging steelmaker envisages gradual increasing the production of long steel products from the initial volume of 600,000 mt per year to 800,000 mt per year. SMM plans to achieve this goal, through the optimization of its production process, by 2014 at the latest.
