Italian plantmaker Danieli's president Gianpietro Benedetti has confirmed the intention of Danieli to build a new steel mill in Europe. As previously reported by SteelOrbis, the company had already announced its plans to invest in the field of special steel production.
In fact, one possibility is to build the new plant in Buttrio, Italy, doubling the current production capacity of Danieli special steel producing subsidiary Acciaierie Bertoli Safau. However, energy-related issues could complicate the feasability of the project in Italy, as stated by Mr. Benedetti. Danieli's managers have not released any further information about other likely scenarios. Meanwhile, talking about a possible slackening of the European markets from now up to 2030, Danieli indicated as exceptions eastern European countries including Poland.
According to Danieli, the new plant would employ 500-600 people, while its raw special steel annual production capacity would amount to 0.8-1 million mt. Danieli Group will take a definitive decision on the issue in the coming months, holding on for several customers who in turn are postponing their investments.
In particular, during 2012 (probably in the final months of the year) Danieli will resume projects in various developments stages which were idled during the war in Libya. As stated by Mr. Benedetti, "I believe that the projects in Libya will resume by the end of 2012. I think this could be a priority for Libya."
