After having concluded many ex-deep sea scrap bookings in previous weeks, SteelOrbis has learned that Turkish mills are still active in the market looking for high grade scrap supplies.

It is reported that Turkish mills have concluded their scrap bookings for March with prompt shipment transactions, having previously suspended their purchases for quite a while. Moving to this week, no new transactions have been heard so far.

Last week, ex-US HMS I/II 80:20 scrap prices for Turkey declined to $428/mt CFR, and this week, with the support of the relief resulting from their sales to Turkey and the Far East, US scrap suppliers are now mentioning higher prices at $435-440/mt CFR.

Harsh winter conditions in the Black Sea region and in most of Europe have been negatively affecting scrap collection and supply facilities. After our last ex-Europe scrap booking reports last week, no new transaction has been heard so far this week. SteelOrbis has learned from market sources that Romanian A3 scrap is being offered to Turkey at $435/mt CFR; however, buyers are not interested in prices above $420/mt CFR.
