US import wire rod offers stable, but quiet

A week after the US Department of Commerce announcement of an AD/CVD investigation into wire rod imports from 10 countries, sources report no discernable impact on import wire rod offers—a scenario that is expected to continue until preliminary margins are announced later this year.

Wire rod offers to the US from Turkey have not changed in the last week, as weak global demand and soft international wire rod prices have resulted in an unwillingness by Turkish mills to reduce wire rod prices, especially considering their order books for May production are mostly full.

As such, Turkish offers of imported product in the US domestic market, in the range of $22.50-$23.50 cwt. ($450-$470/nt or $495-$518/mt) DDP loaded truck in US Gulf ports, are expected to trend neutral in the near-term.
