US wire rod imports down 44.9 percent in September

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of wire rod totaled 49,233 mt in September 2023, down 44.9 percent from August and down 9.0 percent from September 2022 levels. By value, wire rod imports totaled $47.8 million in September 2023, compared to $85.7 million in August and $61.6 million in September 2022.

The US imported the most wire rod from Canada in September, with 24,448 mt, compared to 31,041 mt in August and 23,849 in September 2022. Other top sources of imported wire rod in September include Brazil, with 8,059 mt; South Korea, with 4,718 mt; Egypt, with 4,574 mt; and Germany, with 3,302 mt.
