Local Turkish merchant bar prices trend up

Over the past week, Turkish official domestic merchant bar prices have risen by TRY 200-550/mt ($2-15/mt)  against the backdrop of the ongoing currency fluctuations and costlier import scrap and billet. In addition, one Iskenderun-based mill has issued its official merchant bar price at TRY 17,250/mt ($605/mt) ex-works today.

Most merchant bar sellers are offering either for November delivery or from stocks. A few re-rollers are also offering their HEA/HEB (550-700 mm, standard) at TRY 23,900/mt ($838/mt) ex-works for delivery in the Karabuk region, rising by TRY 200/mt in order to offset the currency fluctuations, while it has kept its US dollar-based price stable. "Demand is sluggish, so we are taking our time before a further price increase" one source commented. Most local buyers are under pressure from limited credit availability.
