Over the past two weeks, local Turkish official merchant bar producers have cut their merchant bar prices by TRY 500/mt ($10-11/mt) in the Iskenderun region, while merchant bar prices have fallen by TRY 200/mt with minor changes on US dollar basis in the rest of the country. Moreover, one Iskenderun-based mill is offering its equal angle price at TRY 19,500-19,820/mt ($604-614/mt) ex-works this week.
Most merchant bar sellers are offering either for May-early June delivery or from stocks. A few re-rollers are also offering their HEA/HEB (550-700 mm, standard) at TRY 26,800/mt ($831/mt), for delivery to the Karabuk region.
The general sentiment on the demand side is negative amid the appreciation of the Turkish lira against the US dollar, difficulties accessing bank loans, and the recent softening seen in deep sea import scrap prices.
