In previous weeks, demand in the Bulgarian flat steel market had slowed down severely due to harsh winter conditions. However, with the weather conditions getting better, demand is expected to revive slowly.

In the Bulgarian domestic market, local producer Stomana is offering S235JR grade steel plate at BGN 1,165/mt ($1,095/mt) CPT. The producer is charging an additional BGN 30/mt ($20/mt) for 30 mm and above thicknesses. It has been learned that this price level is relatively high for the Bulgarian market, though the producer's sales to central Europe are performing well.

SteelOrbis has learned that Ukrainian steel producer Donetsk Iron and Steel Works (DMZ) is offering March production steel plate to the Bulgarian market at $705/mt CFR. Market participants think that this price is acceptable, as it is lower than Stomana's prices.

On the other hand, Italian offers to Bulgaria for 15-20 mm S235R grade steel plate are standing at €600/mt ($798/mt) CFR.
