Steel trade between Japan and China declined by 5%

Total amount of steel trade between Japan and China in H1 of 2003 is recorded as 3.64 million tons, which corresponds to a 5% decrease compared to the production volume recorded in H1 of last year. It is stated that, in H1 of 2003 exports from Japan to China with a decline of 17.6% have been registered as 2.9 million tons, while imports have been doubled and reached up to 663'000 tons, compared with the same period last year. According to the statistics, total amount of exports and imports between the two countries is 19.8 million tons. Exports with a decline by 5.3% constitute 16.8 million tons of the total amount, while imports with an increase by 24% constitute 3.01 million tons. Under the scope of these statistics it is obvious that China is the most significant steel exporter to Japan as well as to other Asian countries.
