In 2014, world pig iron production amounted to 1.18 billion mt, rising by 1.3 percent compared to 2013, according to the preliminary data covering 38 countries accounting for approximately 99 percent of total world blast furnace pig iron production, released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel).
In the given period, pig iron output in Asia amounted to 910.6 million mt, up 1.44 percent, with 711.6 million mt produced by China, rising slightly by 0.5 percent, 83.8 million mt produced by Japan, remaining almost unchanged, and 53.8 million mt produced by India, up 4.7 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in the same period, EU countries produced 95 million mt of pig iron, up 2.6 percent, while the CIS produced 79.55 million mt, down 2.9 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
Meanwhile, in December 2014 global pig iron production amounted to 95.8 million metric tons, increasing by 4.5 percent compared to November, and up 9.5 percent on year-on-year basis.
In December alone, pig iron output in Asia amounted to 73.8 million mt, up 3.4 percent, with 56.9 million mt produced by China, up 3.77 percent, 6.94 million mt produced by Japan, down 1.35 percent, and 4.63 million mt produced by India, up 2.4 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in the same month EU countries produced 7.34 million mt of pig iron, down 10.2 percent and the CIS produced 6.52 million mt, down 6.4 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
