According to a statement released by the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association (DCUD), in January this year, Turkey's crude steel production rose by 14.4 percent year on year and was up 0.7 percent month on month, reaching 3.13 million mt. In January, Turkey's crude steel output exceeded the previous highest monthly production volume of 3.1 million mt recorded in December 2011.
In January, of the total crude steel production in Turkey, steel production using electric arc furnaces (EAF) amounted to 2.34 million mt, with an increase of 14 percent, while production via blast furnaces rose by 15.3 percent to 791,000 mt, both compared to January 2011.
In the first month of 2012, Turkey's steel billet output moved up by 15.7 percent to 2.37 million mt, and its slab output climbed by 10.4 percent to 763,000 mt, both on year-on-year basis. The share of steel billet in total crude steel production was 75.7 percent, while the share of electric arc furnaces in the billet production was 74.8 percent.
