According to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in January this year Turkey's stainless flat steel imports rose by 3.85 percent compared to the previous month and were up 34.4 percent compared to January 2011, increasing to 31,730 metric tons. The value of these imports amounted to $86.5 million, increasing by 4.6 percent as compared to December 2011 and up 25.3 percent year on year.
In the first month of the current year, Turkey's stainless flat steel imports from Taiwan amounted to 5,936 metric tons, increasing by 32.1 percent year on year and down 40.4 percent from the previous month. Turkey's second biggest source of stainless flat steel imports in January was Germany with 4,936 metric tons, more than double compared to the same month last year and up 62.7 percent month on month.
In 2011, Turkey's stainless flat steel imports had amounted to 352,498 metric tons, increasing 7.2 percent compared to 2010.
