Turkey’s stainless flat steel imports up 7.2 percent in 2011

According to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in December 2011 Turkey's stainless flat steel imports rose by 12 percent compared to the previous month and were up 3.5 percent compared to December 2010, increasing to 30,553 metric tons. The value of these imports amounted to $82.7 million, increasing by 0.4 percent as compared to November 2011 and down 2.8 percent year on year.

In 2011, Turkey's stainless flat steel imports amounted to 352,498 metric tons, increasing 7.2 percent compared to 2010.

In 2011, Turkey's stainless flat steel imports from Taiwan amounted to 83,154 metric tons, increasing by 12.5 percent year on year and accounting for approximately 23.6 percent of Turkey's total stainless flat steel imports. Turkey's second biggest source of stainless flat steel imports in 2011 was South Korea with 48,453 metric tons, increasing by 8.4 percent compared to 2010. Meanwhile, Turkey's stainless flat steel imports from Germany decreased 17.8 percent compared to 2010, falling to 39,058 mt.
