Turkey's pig iron imports up 15.3 percent in H1

In June this year, Turkey's pig iron imports amounted to 66,148 mt, decreasing by 43.78 percent month on month and up 3.23 percent year on year, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The total value of Turkey's pig iron imports in the given month was $28.21 million, down 42.77 percent month on month and decreasing by 0.73 percent compared to June 2013. According to the data for June this year, the average price for Turkish pig iron imports in the given month was $426.5/mt, increasing from the average of $418.94/mt recorded in May.

 

Meanwhile, in the first half of the current year, Turkey's pig iron imports increased by 15.26 percent to 538,616 mt, while the value of these imports rose 15.98 percent to $229.33 million, both on year-on-year basis.

In the first half of this year, Turkey imported 343,117 metric tons of pig iron from Ukraine, up 22.58 percent year on year. Ukraine ranked first among Turkey's pig iron import sources in the period in question, followed by Russia which supplied 165,984 mt, up 13.8 percent year on year. Meanwhile, in June alone, Ukraine was Turkey's leading source of pig iron imports, supplying 45,059 mt.
