Turkey's pig iron imports increase further in July

In July this year, Turkey's pig iron imports amounted to 73,673 mt, increasing by 11.38 percent month on month and up 45.26 percent year on year, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The total value of Turkey's pig iron imports in the given month was $31.95 million, up 13.26 percent month on month and increasing by 39.18 percent compared to July 2013. According to the data for July this year, the average price for Turkish pig iron imports in the given month was $433.7/mt, increasing from the average of $426.5/mt recorded in June.

Meanwhile, in the first seven months of the current year, Turkey's pig iron imports increased by 18.19 percent to 612,289 mt, while the value of these imports rose 18.39 percent to $261.29 million, both on year-on-year basis.

In the first seven months of this year, Turkey imported 368,956 metric tons of pig iron from Ukraine, up 23.65 percent year on year. Ukraine ranked first among Turkey's pig iron import sources in the period in question, followed by Russia which supplied 209,567 mt, up 25.14 percent year on year. Meanwhile, in July alone, Russia was Turkey's leading source of pig iron imports, supplying 43,582 mt.
