Turkey’s pig iron imports maintain downtrend in April

According to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in April this year Turkey's pig iron imports amounted to 51,508 mt, down 40 percent compared to the previous month and down 61.6 percent from the same month of 2012. April constituted the second consecutive month of strong month-on-month decline in the country's pig iron imports. In April this year, the average price for Turkish pig iron imports was $437/mt according to TUIK data, falling from the average of $478/mt recorded in the same month of the previous year. The total value of Turkey's pig iron imports in April of the current year was $22.5 million, down 37.5 percent month on month and down 64.9 percent compared to April 2012.


 
In the first four months of the year, Turkey's pig iron imports totaled 328,787 mt, decreasing 34.2 percent compared to the same period of 2012.

Turkey imported 205,131 metric tons of pig iron from Ukraine in January-April this year, down 38 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. However, Ukraine remained Turkey's largest pig iron source in the first four months, followed by Russia which supplied 102,864 mt, down 23.8 percent year on year.
