According to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in May this year Turkey's pig iron imports amounted to 74,440 mt, rising 44.5 percent compared to the previous month but down 46.8 percent from the same month of 2012. In May this year, the average price for Turkish pig iron imports was $431/mt according to the TUIK data, falling from the average of $495/mt recorded in the same month of the previous year. The total value of Turkey's pig iron imports in May of the current year was $32.1 million, up 42.8 percent month on month and down 53.7 percent compared to May 2012.
In the first five months of the year, Turkey's pig iron imports totaled 403,226 mt, decreasing 37 percent compared to the same period of 2012.
Turkey imported 262,168 metric tons of pig iron from Ukraine in January-May this year, down 36.6 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. However, Ukraine remained Turkey's largest pig iron source in the first five months, followed by Russia which supplied 109,533 mt, down 42.3 percent year on year.
