Tonghua Steel to complete slab & strip project

SteelOrbis Shanghai Jilin province based Tonghua Iron and Steel Group (Tonghua Steel) is going to complete its one million ton capacity cold rolled thin slab and strip project soon. The project, which commenced in June 2005 with RMB 1.93 billion ($240.65 million) investment, has been almost completed now with the major plant foundation finished and framework installed, the construction of office building and auxiliary building has been completed and some main blocks are ready for operation. The designed production capacity of the project is one million tons per annum, among which, 550,000 tons are hot rolled pickled and galvanized steel sheets, 150,000 tons are cold rolled coils, and 300,000 tons are cold rolled galvanized coils. The project will expand Tonghua Steel's product range from bar, wire, tube and other “long” products used for building materials, to “flat” products such as structural plate and electrical appliance plates.
