Tata Steel Europe, a subsidiary of India's Tata Steel, has announced that it plans to halt operations at its loss-making construction products business, focused on roll-formed products and assemblies, based at the Llanwern site in Newport, South Wales, UK.

According to the Tata Steel statement, the company will try minimizing the impact of the closure and evaluate all the options to reassign employees if applicable and provide support services to people to be laid off.

Tata Steel stated that they will carry out a formal consultation process over a statutory minimum period of 30 days with the trade unions and employee representatives, and with all employees individually.
