Singapore’s Meranti Steel to produce green HRC in Thailand

Singapore-based steelmaker Meranti Steel plans to build a green flat plant based on direct reduced iron-electric arc furnace technology in Thailand.

The plant, which will have an annual production capacity of two million mt of hot rolled coil, is planned to start production in the second half of 2027.

The new plant, which will operate with natural gas at the beginning, will be able to operate with hydrogen in the future with the aim of becoming carbon neutral.
