Germany-based Siemens' subsidiary in China, Siemens Ltd China, announced on August 17 that it has received an order from Chinese steelmaker Handan Iron & Steel Group Co. Ltd to supply automation and drive equipment for three new BOF (basic oxygen furnace) converters in its Handan Steel Works.

According to the company's statement, the project has a total value of several million euro and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2010. Siemens had already received orders earlier this year from this Chinese company to equip a bloom/beam-blank combi-caster and to supply a new long product rolling mill.

The three BOF converters in the Handan works will allow an annual production capacity of 4.65 million metric tons of liquid steel

Handan Iron & Steel Group Co. Ltd is a subsidiary company of Hebei Iron & Steel Group Co. Ltd, one of China's leading steel producers, which in 2009 produced a total of 40 million metric tons of steel.
