Finnish steelmaker Ruukki announced on May 20 that it has signed an agreement with
Norway-based engineering and construction service provider Aker Solutions to supply 24 suction anchors in September 2010 from its Kalajoki unit in
Finland. Ruukki has also supplied offshore steels for the same project.
The suction anchors and offshore steel plates will be used in the Goliat field in the Barents Sea in northern Scandinavia. Suction anchors are used to anchor subsea manifolds to the sea bed. The suction anchors will be 5.5 meters in diameter and about 6.7-9.7 meters in height. They will be installed at water depths up to 400 meters and fixed to the bottom soil by vacuum.
Ruukki has previously delivered suction anchors to Aker Solutions, e.g., for the production platform in the Gjøa field.
