Russia issues January-May output results

According to the data released by the Russian Federation's Federal State Statistics Service, in January-May this year Russia produced 23.4 million metric tons of finished steel products - up 23 percent, 3.5 million metric tons of steel pipes - up 46.8 percent, and 20.4 million mt of pig iron - up 27.2 percent, all compared to January-May 2009.

In addition, in the first five months of this year the country registered a 15.7 percent increase in its coal mining output and a 20.8 percent rise in its iron ore concentrate output year on year. The respective figures in metric tons were 132 million and 38.2 million. In addition, Russia's metallurgical coke output during the period in question went up by 28.6 percent year on year to 11.5 million metric tons.

Meanwhile, in May this year, Russia's finished steel product output increased by four percent, its pig iron output went down by 3.1 percent, while its pipe production decreased by 7.8 percent, all compared to April.

In May, Russia's coal output went down by two percent month on month, its coke production was the same as the level recorded in April, while its iron ore concentrate output rose by 4.6 percent compared to April.
