Finnish steelmaker Rautaruukki (Ruukki) announced on January 13 that, in an effort to improve the efficiency of its steel service operations, it will focus its parts processing activity at its Raahe and Seinäjoki service centers, while it will close the steel service centre at Tampere by the end of June, 2009.

The measures in question are in line with Ruukki's aim to further improve production and cost-efficiency under the "boost" program it launched in October 2008.

Employer-employee negotiations relating to the closure of the Tampere unit concluded on January 12. The closure of this service centre will result in the loss of 63 jobs.
