Australia's Queensland government will support Australian miner Fortescue regarding its legal challenge against the Australian federal government's Minerals Resource Rent Tax (MRRT), according to media reports.
The Queensland state government has suggested that the tax unfairly discriminates against the resource-rich state, raising the possibility that it is constitutionally invalid.
In June, Fortescue lodged a challenge in the High Court of Australia against the mineral resources tax on constitutional grounds.
The legislation for the 30 percent resources tax which was originally proposed to be 40 percent was passed by Australia's parliament in March.
