South Korean steel goliath POSCO has decided to create a patent technology pool and provide it free of charge to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to enable them to carry out business utilizing POSCO's patented technologies.

According to a company statement, POSCO will support SMEs with 200 or so patent technologies for use free of charge in the green growth field such as environmentally friendly technologies and energy. In addition, the company will lower patent usage fees to its minimum for approximately 800 other patents.

Besides POSCO plans to carry out transfer activities proactively for 2,000 or so patent technologies so that SMEs can easily utilize them, and also plans to expand the exemption scope of patent usage fees.

The patent technology pool can be found at Steel-n.com (www.steel-n.com), the company said.
