South Korean steelmaker POSCO is scheduled to complete and start up its No. 4 pickling and oiling line (POL) at its Gwangyang Works in September. In a bid to meet the fast growing demand for pickled and oiled steel sheets, which can replace relatively expensive cold rolled steel sheets for use in automotive parts, POSCO is building the new POL with an annual production capacity of 400,000 mt at the Gwangyang Works. The POL No. 4, which the company began constructing in September last year, will be equipped with a push-pull line with an annual output capacity of 400,000 mt, a recoiling line with an annual recoiling capacity of 300,000 mt together with a unit of coil packing equipment which can handle 700,000 mt of coils per year, for the production of its pickled and oiled steel sheets for use in automotive parts. Meanwhile, POSCO is currently constructing a pickling/galvanizing line (PGL) at its Pohang Works with completion scheduled for March 2012, which will be capable of producing 600,000 mt of pickled and oiled steel sheets and 400,000 tons of hot rolled galvanized steel sheets per year.
