According to a report released by
Poland's
Automotive Market Research Institute (SAMAR), in August this year sales of passenger cars in
Poland dropped significantly compared to July, as expected; however, sales were higher than the same month last year. Cumulative sales, in the January-August period this year, were still lower than in the corresponding period of 2009, though SAMAR stated that this situation may soon change.
In August, new car sales amounted to 22,625 units, increasing by 7.38 percent year on year and down 7.61 percent month on month due to the holiday season, while in the January-August period of this year new car sales in the Polish market declined by 4.29 percent year on year to 205,418 units. SAMAR stressed that, although sales are still lower than a year earlier, the difference is decreasing from month to month.
So far, the conditions in
Poland have not encouraged people to buy new cars. The precarious economic situation of the country as well as the weak exchange rate against the euro have adversely affected the demand for new cars, especially from people buying cars for private use.
