Pakistan’s scrap imports up 20 percent in August

Pakistan's iron and steel scrap imports amounted to 146,852 mt in August this year, decreasing four percent compared to July and up 20 percent year on year, according to data released by the Pakistan Federal Bureau of Statistics (PFBS). The value of the iron and steel scrap imports was $55.1 million in August, falling 10.2 percent compared to July this year and up 35.7 percent compared to the same month of 2011.

Pakistan's scrap imports in the July-August 2012 period amounted to 299,378 mt, increasing 1.4 percent compared to the same period one year earlier. In the period in question, the value of Pakistan's iron and steel scrap imports was $116.6 million, rising 18.3 percent year on year.

Meanwhile, Pakistan's iron and steel imports in August amounted to 123,350 mt, decreasing by 16.5 percent on year-on-year basis and up 21.1 percent compared to the previous month. The country's iron and steel imports in the July-August 2012 period totaled 225,225 mt, decreasing by 16.7 percent year on year. In the period in question, the value of Pakistan's iron and steel imports was $200.5 million, falling 5.6 percent year on year.
