New orders in German building construction up 9.5% in Q1

As reported by the German Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the total price-adjusted value of orders received by building construction and civil and underground engineering enterprises in Germany increased by six percent in March 2012 compared to the same month of the previous year.

In March this year, building construction demand increased by 13.7 percent, while demand in civil and underground engineering was down by 1.9 percent, both on year-on-year basis. The total turnover in building construction amounted in March 2012 to around €6.7 billion, decreasing by around 1.8 percent compared to March 2011.

Meanwhile, in the first quarter of 2012 the total price-adjusted value of orders in the construction industry increased by 9.5 percent over the corresponding quarter of the previous year. In the January-March period, the total turnover of the German construction industry amounted to approximately €15.4 billion, with an increase of 1.3 percent over the same period of 2011.
