New SMS Meer equipment inaugurated at Buderus, Germany

A new open-die forging press installed by SMS Meer, a subsidiary of German plantmaker SMS Siemag, was formally inaugurated at the Wetzlar Works of Buderus Edelstahl GmbH, Germany recently. The open-die forging press can be operated with both 8,000 mt press force and in the slower upsetting cycle with 10,000 mt press force.

With this new press, Buderus Edelstahl is now able to forge large work­pieces with a diameter of almost 4 m, an SMS press release said, adding that such heavy components are used in power generation engineering and special machine engineering.

With this new open-die forging press, Buderus has also installed eight new 250 mt and one 300 mt forging furnace, a trackless transport system for ingots up to 160 mt and an oil-hydraulic system with an oil volume of 70,000 liters.
