German industry equipment provider SMS Siemag has successfully modernized a single-strand slab caster for Jindal Stainless, based at Hisar in the northwestern Indian state of Haryana.

The modernization of the caster, with an annual production of stainless steel of 500,000 mt, started in 2009.

According to a SMS Siemag press release, the caster was fitted with a hydraulic resonance oscillator and the related technology control system. The resonance oscillator, with variable oscillation frequency, stroke length and curve shape, guarantees a slab surface of continuously excellent quality. This represents a considerable cost benefit, above all for stainless steels.
