"Mobarakeh has recently signed a contract with MAPNA [Iran Power Plant Projects Management Co. (MAPNA) - a public sector general contractor of energy projects in Iran] for the establishment of two 500 MW power plants with a total value of €500 million," Mohammad Rajaie, managing director of Iranian steelmaker Mobarakeh Steel has stated. Mr. Rajaie added," The power plants are to be constructed within 32 months according to our contract and the project will start as soon as we provide the finance."

The Iranian authorities plan to construct power plants, producing a total of 3,000 MW, close to industries which are high consumers of electricity, i.e., steel plants, aluminum smelters, etc., as existing domestic electricity output does not meet the country's demand.
