The Mexican Ministry of Economy (SE) endorsed the application of antidumping duties imposed a year ago from 68 to 250 percent on graphite electrodes for electric arc furnaces, which are imported from any country but of Chinese origin and are used in the steel industry, as part of the final resolution of the matter dumping investigation.
According to the SE statement, the tariffs apply to imported products under price discrimination or subsidization in their country of origin. They are established when it is necessary to prevent the occurrence of domestic of goods in conditions involving unfair trade practices and to offset the benefits of subsidies to producers or exporters in the exporting country.
The resolution on graphite electrodes was published in March 2012 and in May of the same year was challenged by two companies, TA 2000 and Talleres y Aceros, which argued that the revocation appeal violated articles of the Constitution, the Code Federal Tax and SE officials, including its owner and Undersecretary for Competitiveness and Regulation.
However, the SE refuted these arguments and said Wednesday through the Official Journal of the Federation (DOF) that the case was "definitely closed" and ordered to be filed.
