Libyan Iron and Steel Company upgrades mill

Libyan Iron and Steel Company has signed seven contracts worth a total of $119 million with companies from Italy, China, Turkey and Bosnia directed towards the upgrading of its mill.

The Libyan company is to construct a new station for separation of gases and compressed air (16,000 m3/h), with Chinese company Catic to supply the necessary machinery and equipment. Two Italian companies, Fritti and Tecnomontagi, will supply the civil engineering and various erection works.

Libyan Iron and Steel Company has also signed a contract with Italian company Revass for the supply and erection of new equipment specifically for the upgrading its light and heavy sections rolling mill. In addition, the North African producer has concluded an agreement with Bosnian firm Enregoinvest for the establishment of up a new electric power sub-station.

China-based Key Technologies will set up the cold rolling stand, while Italian firm Techint will carry out erection works and development of internal transport.

Libyan Iron and Steel Company has also agreed a contract with Turkish company TML for the extension of its port quay.

The projects are expected to be competed within 2009-2010.
