SteelOrbis has learned that by March 2009 JSW Steel, one of India's largest steelmakers, will commission a new blast furnace (BF) with an annual capacity of three million mt at its Vijaynagar plant near Bellary. Following the commissioning of the blast furnace, which will be the biggest in India, the plant will have an annual capacity of seven million tons.

The company is aiming to brisk up steel production in January since demand is showing a recovery, vice chairman and managing director Sajjan Jindal said on the sidelines of an industry conference.

The firm had said last month it would cut output by 20 percent and had also delayed commissioning of the new blast furnace at the Vijaynagar plant.
