Jiangsu Provincial Power Company, the power supply authority of China's eastern province of Jiangsu, has forecast that it will see a maximum power shortage of over 11 million kilowatts this summer, equivalent to 16 percent of the province's total power needs.

The iron and steel industry is a major energy consumer, with its average annual power consumption in China exceeding 200 billion kWh, accounting for about 14 percent of total industrial power consumption in the country. On April 22, Jiangsu Provincial Power Company held discussions with the top 10 steel enterprises in Jiangsu regarding reductions of power supply.
