Japan’s scrap exports to China rise 35 percent in July over June

According to statistics released by Japan's Ministry of Finance, Japan's ferrous scrap exports totaled 445,640 metric tons in July this year, rising by 6.16 percent month on month and down 48.37 percent compared to July 2009.
 
In the month in question, China increased its ferrous scrap imports from Japan by 34.86 percent month on month to 264,020 metric tons, while a drop of 55.9 percent was registered compared to July 2009. South Korea imported 146,799 metric tons from the same source, down 29.5 percent month on month and down 40.22 percent year on year.
 
Meanwhile, in the January-July period of 2010, Japan's scrap exports amounted to 3.95 million metric tons, declining by 38.38 percent year on year.
 
In the first seven months of this year, Japanese scrap exports to China totaled 1.58 million metric tons, while exports to South Korea amounted to 2.17 million metric tons, decreasing by 55.9 percent and down 7.19 percent respectively, both compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
