According to statistics released by Japan's Ministry of Finance, Japan's ferrous scrap exports totaled 703,811 metric tons in February this year, rising by 25.86 percent month on month and up 26.64 percent compared to February 2011.
In February of the current year, Japan's ferrous scrap exports to South Korea increased by 18.3 percent month on month to 421,207 metric tons, while a rise of 22.4 percent was registered compared to February 2011. China imported 260,123 metric tons from Japan in February this year, increasing 43.2 percent month on month and up 31.6 percent year on year.
Meanwhile, in the January-February period of this year, Japan's scrap exports amounted to 1.26 million metric tons, increasing by 29 percent year on year.
In the first two months of the year, Japanese scrap exports to South Korea totaled 777,307 metric tons, while exports to China amounted to 441,756 metric tons, increasing by 35.2 percent and up 14.66 percent respectively, both compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
