Japan’s new ship export orders up 63.5 percent in June from May

According to the data released by the Japan Ship Exporters' Association (JSEA), Japanese new ship export orders in June this year increased by 63.5 percent on tonnage basis compared to the previous month, remaining at six ships totaling 499,370 gross tons, consisting of one tanker, one crude carrier and three bulk carriers. In June 2011, Japan's new ship export orders totaled 15 ships with 545,770 gross tons.

At the end of the first six months of the current year, Japanese shipbuilders' order books for export totaled 67 ships, with a total tonnage of 3.5 million gross tons, falling by 31 percent year on year.

Meanwhile, in June, Japan delivered 41 ships totaling 2 million gross tons for export, increasing from 27 ships totaling 1.3 million gross tons recorded in May this year. In the first six months of this year, Japan delivered 212 ships for export, totaling 9.7 million gross tons, increasing by 4.04 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2011.
