Japan’s new ship export orders down 4.1% in July from June

According to the data released by the Japan Ship Exporters' Association (JSEA), Japanese new ship export orders in July this year decreased by 4.1 percent on tonnage basis compared to the previous month, but rose to 13 ships compared to six ships recorded in June, totaling 479,037 gross tons, consisting of one LNG carrier and 12 bulk carriers. In July 2011, Japan's new ship export orders totaled 13 ships with 484,020 gross tons.

At the end of the first seven months of the current year, Japanese shipbuilders' order books for export totaled 80 ships, with a total tonnage of 4 million gross tons, falling by 28.5 percent year on year.

Meanwhile, in July, Japan delivered 28 ships totaling 1.3 million gross tons for export, decreasing from 41 ships totaling 2 million gross tons recorded in June this year. In the first seven months of this year, Japan delivered 240 ships for export, totaling 11 million gross tons, increasing by 6.7 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2011.
