Japan's new ship export orders decline in March from February

According to the data released by the Japan Ship Exporters' Association (JSEA), Japanese new ship export orders in March increased by 143.47 percent on tonnage basis compared to February and were down 19 percent year on year, amounting to 30 ships, up from 14 ships recorded in February, totaling 1.52 million gross tons, consisting of 19 bulk carriers. In March 2014, Japan's new ship export orders had totaled 47 ships amounting to 1.88 million gross tons.
In the first quarter of this year, Japanese shipbuilders received new export orders for a total of 56 ships with an aggregate of 3.33 million gross tons, increasing by 37 percent year on year. 
 
On the other hand, in March Japan delivered 33 ships for export, totaling 1.46 million gross tons, increasing from 25 ships totaling 768,386 gross tons recorded in February. In March 2014, Japan's new ship deliveries for export had totaled 30 ships with 1.33 million gross tons. Meanwhile, in the first quarter of the current year, Japan delivered 97 ships for export, totaling 3.93 million gross tons, increasing by 5.51 percent year on year.
