Japan's new ship export orders increase in June from May

According to the data released by the Japan Ship Exporters' Association (JSEA), Japanese new ship export orders in June increased by 217 percent on tonnage basis compared to May and were up 37.7 percent year on year to 98 ships, up from 17 ships recorded in May, totaling 4.67 million gross tons, consisting of 54 bulk carriers. In June 2014, Japan's new ship export orders had totaled 91 ships amounting to 3.39 million gross tons.
 
In the first six months of this year, Japanese shipbuilders received new export orders for a total of 193 ships with an aggregate of 10.84 million gross tons, increasing by two percent year on year.  
 
On the other hand, in June Japan delivered 20 ships for export, totaling 772,173 gross tons, decreasing from 19 ships totaling 805,315 gross tons recorded in May. In June 2014, Japan's new ship deliveries for export had totaled 25 ships with 993,551 gross tons. Meanwhile, in the first six months of the current year, Japan delivered 156 ships for export, totaling 6.21 million gross tons, decreasing by 2.4 percent year on year.
