Japan’s HRP and HRS shipments down 11.5 percent in August from July

In August this year, Japan’s hot rolled plate and sheet shipments dropped by 11.5 percent compared to the previous month and rose by 7.1 percent from 655,425 mt recorded in the same month of 2021, amounting to 702,101 metric tons. 74.0 percent of shipments were made to the domestic market, while the remaining 26.0 percent were made to the export markets, according to the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF) data. In the given month, Japan’s hot rolled plate and sheet production amounted to 715,197 mt, decreasing by 5.4 percent month on month and rising by 2.4 percent year on year.

Meanwhile, in August Japan’s hot rolled strip shipments amounted to 1.05 million mt, dropping by 14.0 percent from the previous month and by 19.6 percent year on year. 19.4 percent of shipments were made to the domestic market, while the remaining 80.6 percent were made to the export markets. In the given month, Japan’s hot rolled strip production amounted to 1.26 million mt, moving up by 15.2 percent month on month and down by 12.5 percent year on year.
