Izhorsky Pipe Plant (IPP), a subsidiary of the Russian steelmaker Severstal, has announced the successful testing of large diameter pipes of Х80 strength category, to be used for Gazprom's Bovanenkovo-Ukhta main gas pipeline project on the Yamal peninsula.
During the testing, the Х80 pipes of 1,420mm in diameter and wall thickness of 33.4 mm, intended for pressure of 120 atm, displayed the highest technical characteristics - strength, frost resistance and stability in an aggressive environment.
IPP commenced pipe supplies for the Bovanenkovo-Ukhta gas pipeline project in April 2008, and has currently delivered more than 200,000 mt of large diameter flow coated pipes with external three-layered insulation, and more than 50,000 mt of Х80 pipes. The total cost of the deliveries has amounted to Ruble 14 billion ($534 million).
Moreover, during Q4 of 2008 and Q1 of 2009, IPP plans to deliver an additional 150,000 mt of large diameter pipes for 1,200 km of the pipeline project in question.
